The Realignment Madness of 2010
If we dig into the past, but only go back 5 years, we will clearly see that college athletics had really lost control of its mind in the year 2010 in the same week. Well, if they really did not lose their mind, in the least they appeared to.
It was the day of June 10, 2010 when there were some incredible movements. Colorado had left the Big 12 and joined Pac-12 while Boise State showed same attitude by becoming the part of Mountain West. But that was not all. The very next day, that is on June 11, to everyone’s surprise, Nebraska made it official that they have accepted the invitation from Big Ten. But there was one school which had not shown any sign of movement. That was Texas.
So everyone waited on Texas, which was taking its own sweet time. Finally, after sleeping for 3 days, the word came out from the school on June 14, that they are going to remain unmoved. Well, the decision was to put a stop to the flight of the other Big 12 schools. With the decision taken by Texas school, the crisis did come to an end, but nonetheless it started the game of musical chairs which was to keep the schools in motion for many years to come. The good news is that the industry has found stability after five long years.
Although Texas brought the stability, what’s notable is the fact that even after five years this school has neither made any progress nor seen any backward movement.
