Carson Palmer retires

Carson Palmer is a former NFL quarterback who played 15 seasons, mostly with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals. He also played for the Oakland Raiders in 2011-2012.  He was drafted as a round 1 pick in 2003 by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Football Career in College

Palmer, born in Fresno, California, entered the University of Southern California in 1998. He played there under Coach Paul Hackett for the first three years. During his college years, Palmer proved himself as one of the nation's top college quarterbacks.

With a height of 6 ft 5 in and a weight of 235 lb, Palmer already showed a remarkable size and arm strength by the time he was in seventh grade.   After playing five seasons with USC, he made a total 11,818 yards, 927 completed passes, and 72 touchdowns.

NFL Career

On July 23, 2003, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Carson Palmer for six years. During his rookie season as a Bengal, Palmer did not play any games but instead, he learned the position during practice under Coach Marvin Lewis and Quarterback Coach Ken Zampese.

After the rookie season in 2004, Palmer was given the starting quarterback position and started 13 games. The Bengals ended 8-8 that season.

In the 2010 season, Palmer requested a trade following a Bengals end of season of 4-12.  President Mike Brown turned down Palmer's request.  During a press conference, Palmer's agent stated that he felt that a separation between Palmer and the Bengals was in the interests of Palmer and the team. The Bengals, under Palmer, had only reached two playoffs and did not win a game in any of them.

On October 2011, the Bengals were approached by the Oakland Raiders to trade Palmer.  Palmer played for the Raiders for 2011-2012. During his two seasons there, he brought Oakland Raiders to a total 8-15 as the team's starting quarterback.

Palmer was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on April 2, 2013.  He retired in 2017, at the time when he was the NFL's all-time 12th in passing yards and passing touchdowns, with a total of 46,247 and 294, respectively.
